Sheffield Children's Festival

Attention Sheffield readers!

Hello again, I am back with more events to give you a little inspiration to explore South Yorkshire with your family this summer and what’s more suiting than Sheffield Children's Festival.

The festival is set to take place throughout June and has activities that most children will enjoy, whether your child loves adventures and tiring themselves out for bedtime (thank god!) or prefers listening to stories. Here is a mini guide to what’s on and where.

Ironie + Friends Trail- Kelham Island Museum

Kelham Island Museum is already a popular attraction for families and is the perfect place if you want to teach your children about the Steel City.

The museum displays life and toll of the Sheffield Industrial workers in the Victorian period and has interactive stations along the trail, a great place for kids who just want to touch everything!

However, with a little help from metal friend ‘Ironie’, children can really get involved in a fun museum adventure and I can imagine all of us adults will enjoy this one too.

There is also a café and free play area if you fancy a bite to eat.

The prices are fantastic as kids go free and it’s only £5.50 for adults with a bonus of free parking, yippee! If you don’t have a car the museum is only a 25 minute walk from Sheffield train station of a short walk from Shalesmoor tramstop. You can find more information here or call 0114 272 2106.

One of the other events for Sheffield Children’s Festival is for the quieter ones who enjoy being read to. ‘Story Tent Fun’ runs on the 21st of June at 12PM and 2PM and engages little ones in tales of mice and clockmakers.

The museum also has a lovely Victorian Garden and walks around the Dam if the weather is nice or old fashioned style displays if the ‘British Summer’ lives up to its unpredictable name.

Once again children go free and adults are £4.00 with free parking or easily accessible by bus. Find out more here.

There is loads more going on too for Sheffield Children’s Festival so go and take a look at what’s on and make the most of summer.

Until next time,

Chanel.

Save it for a Rainy Day

As we all know the British summer unfortunately isn't the most reliable, so if the heavens are open and you still want to do something fun here are a few suggestions.

Cinema deals:

There are so many cinemas in Sheffield, it’s hard to keep track of which one has the best deals. Alas, let me be your fairy ‘godblogger’ as I have found which is the cheapest for kids in the holidays. Cineworld in Valley Centertainment is showing junior films  for as cheap as £1.79 for both adults and children on weekend mornings. Find out more and book tickets here.

Theatre

Pantomime is probably one of the fond memories I have as a child, but parents always seem to forget that there are other shows at the theatre throughout the year. On August 21st- 22nd there are a number of Frozen Sing-A-Long showings at Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield which costs £15.50 for adults and £10.50 for under 16’s. It’s a little on the steep side price-wise but if your kids love Frozen this might be worth the cash.

Soft Play

If there is one thing every parent knows, it’s that kids love a good soft play. There are a few scattered around Sheffield so you should find one anywhere you go. Megakidz at the Megacentre on Bernards Road is £3.50 for 1-8 year olds and free for under 1’s during the school holidays.  The soft play also holds extra activities which change weekly and can be seen on the website here.

Until next time,

Summer in Sheffield: Sheffield Fayre

Hi Sheffield readers,

The summer is fast approaching and we all know what that means; sun, picnics and…bored children. Yes, it is the bane of every parent's life when the words "I'm boooored" leave their children's lips but here is a suggestion on how you can spend some of the summer holidays if the sun is shining.

Sheffield Fayre, 24th & 24th August:

For guaranteed family fun, Sheffield Fayre is something I would recommend every time. I believe the Fayre is on its 14th year and it runs over the August Bank Holiday, so there is no excuse to pack up the kids and the other half.

I went to the Fayre last year with my family and we spent hours there strolling around and watching street entertainers. It pretty much has something for everyone. The younger members of the family spent half of the day in the craft tent making glass charms while the rest of us looked at all the local food stalls, before having fun on the rides.

Throughout the day there are actors in replica Roman and WWI/WWII uniforms re-enacting battle positions and even the stall owners wear old fashioned costume.

The Fayre is held in Norfolk Heritage Park and it is completely free. There are parking spaces close to the park, or it is a five minute walk from Arbourthorne Road tram stop.

You can find out more about the event here.

For now,

Chanel.
